Visitors to the Las Vegas Space Quest casino can step into what feels like the "24th century" thanks some futuristic lighting at a new Star Trek attraction courtesy of Philips. The Las Vegas Hilton spent two years - and millions of dollars - renovating a retail area into the space station themed immersive gaming environment.
The Space Quest Casino simulates an orbiting experience, with lit windows that seem to look out to Space. The Star Trek attraction affords more than 1,000 guests per hour a realistic view of the galaxy.
Philips designers used soft, colorful lighting throughout the casino that changes to vibrant, kaleidoscopic lighting. As the lighting changes, it transforms the atmosphere of the room. Several types of color-changing lighting equipment and developed neon effects go along with the futuristic theme.
In total, the Star Trek attraction uses a half-mile of fluorescent light tubing, a quarter-mile of neon light tubing, and more than 300 different lighting instruments. The total "voyage" created by the alternating lights lasts 22 minutes.
The Space Quest casino is one of Las Vegas' many lighting attractions. Notably, Las Vegas officials have made concerted efforts to go green by introducing more energy saving light bulbs along the famous strip in recent years.
