Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will knight "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actor Patrick Stewart, Buckingham Palace sources say.
The Mirror reported Saturday that Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the science-fiction TV series and in multiple "Trek" films, will be honored by the queen for his 50-year career on television, cinema and the theater.
"It's a fantastic accolade for a fantastic actor," an unidentified observer said of Stewart being added to the New Year's Honors list.
"He is a man at the very top of his trade who has mastered both popular TV and classic roles."
The Mirror said Stewart, who was born in Mirfield, England, began acting with a small drama group while attempting to become a reporter in his youth.
The 69-year-old actor went on to roles in films such as "Dune," "Masterminds" and the "X-Men" film series.
