No matter what universe he's in, Captain Christopher Pike has to make a difficult personal decision.
As reported by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, in the original series, Christopher Pike, as played by Jeffrey Hunter, had to find a reason to go on with his career. "Hunter's Pike had this internal dilemma," explained Bruce Greenwood.
The problem that Greenwood's Pike faced was related to another person, and not his own personal issues. "My Pike's dilemma is whether or not to take a chance on a young man named James T. Kirk," said Greenwood.
Greenwood himself is also taking a chance when it comes to Star Trek fandom, but he doesn't seem fazed by the possibility of enthusiastic Star Trek fans. When asked if he had been warned about the fans, he replied, "I have been, but I haven't seen any real evidence of that yet. There doesn't seem to be a lineup out in our driveway or anything."
Although fandom didn't mess with his mind, the bridge of the Enterprise did, because it was so realistic. "It was a total mind bender," explained Greenwood. "You believe for a second you are about to press a button and go shooting through time. Of course, you just end up at the commissary. It's all a big letdown."
