I like rumors that aren’t necessarily rumors and actually carry some weight behind them as in, straight from the horse’s mouth rumors such as this latest one from JJ Abrams via Ain’t It Cool News.
AICN was originally reporting word Jack Black was being considered for a role in the next Star Trek film as Harry Mudd, a goofy criminal character from the original “Star Trek” series and one I was never particularly fond of. Good news, Black isn’t being considered for Mudd, but JJ is talking to him about something. Here’s what Abrams sent in to AICN:
Yes, talking to Jack Black about doing something — but not Mudd.
Bryan, Damon, Alex and Bob and I have not had MEETING ONE about a sequel.
Brief, casual, blue-sky conversations, of course. But “okay, what’s next for The Crew?” Not a meeting. So any character decisions, let alone actor discussions, feel like a ways away.
I can tell you one thing. For the sequel? I think we should have a shitload more lens flares.
Hope your summer is going well — DYING to see The Hangover.
Talk soon, Sir!
JJ
Happy to see Abrams has a sense of humor regarding the ridiculous stories people wrote up regarding the use of lens flares in Trek, but as for the Black mention it remains a bit wishy-washy as Abrams doesn’t say what he is talking to Black about. Not Mudd of course, but not Trek? Who knows?
In other Jack Black news, there is this short video promo for the upcoming film Paper Heart, which I recently saw and isn’t all that bad. The promo plays on the “questioning love” angle of the film and has star Charlyne Yi asking Jack Black if he’s ever been in love. In keeping with the mockumentary tone of the film it really takes it to the next level and is actually quite a funny little piece.
