Like something out of Star Trek, GE Healthcare has launched an über cool hand-held ultrasound device that more resembles a cell phone than the big, clunky devices we are all used to seeing. The Vscan, as it is called, is not meant to replace the larger, more robust units but I would be surprised if that doesn't happen in the near future. Video available through the link below.
An ultrasound scanner the size of a large mobile phone has been launched in Europe and North America. The Vscan can be used to image the heart and other organs. The portable device could offer a rapid early diagnosis in hospital and the community.
