Zachary Quinto To Provide Voice Acting for 'Star Trek Online'

Zachary Quinto won't reprise his role as Spock from 2009's "Stark Trek" in Cryptic Studios' 2010 MMO "Star Trek Online," but he will voice act for an Emergency Medical Hologram and the game's tutorial. The actor who first rose to prominence for his role as Sylar on NBC's "Heroes," revealed his new Trek job at Spike's Video Game Awards over the weekend, and Atari has reportedly confirmed the news.

"Being a part of the Star Trek universe has been an incredible experience for me," Quinto said, according to Destructoid. "Extending that experience into the gaming space, and sharing it with gamers and Trek enthusiasts around the world, makes it even more exciting."

The Emergency Medical Hologram has rich history in the Star Trek universe, most famously in "Star Trek: Voyager" where the program was portrayed by Robert Picardo. Quinto also joins a legacy that includes Andy Dick, who picked up the part in one episode.

The EMH is a program that can replace Starfleet medical personnel in times of crisis by using a combination of hologram and force-field (or magnetic containment field) technology.

The game is due out on February 2, at which point we'll just how or if Quinto's likeness will be used for the EMH in addition to his voice.
