Examiner Bio Star Trek Convention Las Vegas Saturday

The "Star Trek" convention was just starting to hit it's stride on Saturday.

George Takei was on my list. Mr. Sulu is not only a great speaker, but shines with the love of show-business. He had many stories of his days on the original TV show, and the movies, but my favorite was much more personal to him.

He told the story of how a traditional Japanese son, who had been in an interment camp as a child, wanted to be an actor. However, his father wanted George to be an architect as he was.

When it came time to tell his father that he wanted to be an actor, the situation was much different than George thought it would be. He gave George a choice, he could go to New York to a prestigous acting school, which he would have to pay for himself, or he could stay in L.A. , go to UCLA, and his dad would foot the bill.

After George Takei graduated from UCLA his father gave him a present, a summer's stay with a course on Shakespearean acting in Stratford on Avon, home of the Bard. George Takei is an amazing man as well as a highly trained actor.

Ms. Kim did the "Generations" film as Sulu's daughter. That was basically all she really knew about "Star Trek". She is a lovely person and I will be reporting more on her as she is doing some Indie film making, so check my Indie Page.

Christopher Lloyd was up next. Oh my goodness, he is a funny man. One of the first questions asked was actually a request...do some of Jim from "Taxi"...Instantly, Lloyd changed into Jim, it was hilarious. What a talented man. No problem talking to the audience, and he knew his stuff. A great time at the convention.
