Historic Gold Key Star Trek comics available as reprints

The Gold Key Star Trek comics, published 1967-1978, featured the Enterprise crew of the original series in stories that are not canon and have been described as "odd" (such as one involving space mummies). One of the principal artists for the series, Alberto Giolitti, had never actually seen the television series. Nevertheless the Gold Key Star Trek series kept the flame alive for many fans until the license was revoked by Paramount Pictures in advance of Star Trek: The Motion picture, what might be termed the first "reboot" of the Star Trek franchise. Checker Book Publishing Group began reprinting Gold Key Star Trek comics in 2004 as The Key Collection.
