SJ: STAR TREK EXHIBITION OPENS FRIDAY AT SAN JOSE'S TECH MUSEUM

Beginning today, 'Star Trek' fans in the Bay Area can explore more than 200 artifacts depicting the adventures of James T. Kirk and his fellow U.S.S. Enterprise crewmembers on display at the Tech Museum in San Jose.

"Star Trek: The Exhibition" will feature a 15,000-square-feet sprawl of original costumes, genuine props and authentic recreations of sets from the science fiction television series and feature films. Admission to the exhibition is $19-$25.

In a statement, museum president Peter Friess said the exhibition would allow visitors "to step inside the Star Trek universe and experience the unmatched imagination, vibrant artistry and groundbreaking technology that have made Star Trek the most enduring science fiction franchise in history."

The show runs through Jan. 3, 2010.
