"Star Trek" gave the sci-fi community something to scream about this year and took the top prize at Spike TV's Scream 2009 awards. William Shatner -- who didn't appear in the latest movie version of the iconic TV series -- boldly accepted on director J.J. Abrams' behalf.
"J.J., I'll handle this," Shatner said as he accepted the Ultimate Scream award at Saturday's show. "This movie was big. Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? ... I'll be waiting for your call."
Abrams also won best director and best sci-fi movie for "Star Trek."
Fans voted online for the winners of the Scream 2009 awards, honoring the best in sci-fi, horror, fantasy and comic-inspired movies and TV shows. The ceremony will air Oct. 27 on Spike.
