Comic-Con 2009 shifted into full gear today in San Diego, California. After a successful preview night for four day pass holders, the convention of the popular arts began in earnest at 10:00 am this morning. Among the first panel discussions to be held were:
a Fan's Guide to Comic-Con in Room 2
Heroes, Villains and Archetypes in Room 5AB
Escapist Fantasy in Room 10
The Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive begins at 10:00 just inside the lower level doors of the Marriott Hotel and Marina. Donors get a unique goodie bag filled with fun stuff, and a limited edition Star Trek: The Next Generation figure from Diamond Select Toys. (Figures are limited in availability.) Donors also receive a True Blood tee shirt and a SDBloodBank tee shirt.
In the exhibit hall, in addition to lots to purchase, plenty of fun displays and freebies can be had. And as the images below show, there are lots of opportunities to take photos.
Black Beauty, from next year's Green Hornet movie, is still under wraps. But the Daleks from Doctor Who love to have humans know they're around; no hiding these guys! Photos by KSJ.
The Hallmark booth is already out of their allottment of Star Trek: Uhura ornaments. A line began just before 10:00 for that ornament and Star Wars exclusives.
At 12:30 pm in Room 6A Richard Hatch will be moderating a discussion on Battlestar Gallatica. Edward James Olmos and Michael Hogan are siging autographs toward the front of the Exhbit Hall between D and E. (Photos by KSJ.)
