With the success of the recent "Star Trek" film, fans have been going back to the original series DVDs for comparisons.
We wonder, though, how many are looking at "Star Trek The Animated Series - The Animated Adventures of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek," the '70s cartoon revival that featured all the original series voices from William Shatner to James Doohan?
Though a cartoon, "Star Trek The Animated Series" took itself pretty seriously, as the original series did.
This is particularly evident in episode 2, "Yesteryear," in which the animated grown-up Mr. Spock (again voiced by Leonard Nimoy) meets up with his younger self in a time travel episode. Though this might have been sillier done by the filmed series, the animated series does it with a straight face.
In comparison to the original series, the cartoon series takes a back seat. In fact, it's forgotten by maybe all but Trekkies. Maybe it's about time it got a little more respect.
