Book Review : Star Trek The Next Generation Losing the Peace

Star Trek The Next Generation Losing the Peace by William Leisner

Review by Jeff Ayers

The universe of Star Trek has been forever altered after the events of the final Borg War revealed in the Destiny trilogy. Picard knows the scourge will never threaten the Federation again, but has a difficult time convincing anyone else of his belief. While the fleet rebuilds and ships like the Titan get sent on far away missions, the Enterprise stays closer to Earth to help with war relief.

A very pregnant Beverly takes a mission to Pacifica to help the inhabitants deal with the influx of refugees. Picard tries to regain the trust of his crew, who all must battle their personal demons that have been unleashed as a result of the destruction.

Author William Leisner knows the voices of the characters we know and love well and the new characters are beginning to grow into interesting crewmembers as well. Readers following the journey of the post-Borg up to this point know where this will end, but that still doesn't detract from the compelling tale. How will they handle the new universe now that sides have been chosen?

If the Destiny books were the main course, then Losing the Peace is a delicious dessert.
