The final frontier, complete with Vulcans and tribbles, has beamed down on Orient Road. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa is unveiling a dozen new slot machines, games that combine hyperspace and warp speed and even some plot lines of the old "Star Trek" television show, with good ol' fashion gambling. The "Star Trek" slots will begin taking wagers at 6 p.m. today. The games, which are exclusively in Seminole casinos in Florida, offer a "fully immersive videolike experience that adjusts to players' personal preferences," said a news release from the casino. The new games allow maximum bets of $6.25 and plays in nickel denominations. The slots look like arcade video games, complete with captains' chairs. They combine characters from the original television series with plot lines of familiar episodes in a videogame-type experience, the release said. Besides beating the odds and collecting cash, players win "medals" that unlock new "Star Trek" episodes. Players log on to the machines and even create their own personal identification numbers so they can save accomplishments and continue games at later dates. Episodes incorporated into the game include the comedic "The Trouble With Tribbles" along with more dramatic episodes. "We're excited to be the exclusive gaming destinations for 'Star Trek' slots," Paul Tjoumakaris, senior vice president of gaming operations for Seminole Gaming, said in the news release. "We're confident that this unique immersive gaming technology will attract even more players, as well as cult fans of the 'Star Trek' franchise, looking for the latest and greatest experiences." http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/jun/25/star-trek-slots-out-vulcan-world-seminole-casinos/
