Opening with 'Starlings', the Manchester band performed a greatest hits set for the enthusiastic crowd, many of whom were still sporting fancy dress in accordance with the event's theme this year, 'out of space', at the Isle Of Wight event.
Ahead of 'Mirror Ball', frontman Guy Garvey, who spoke to the crowd throughout, asked the audience to put their hands up if they were in love, provoking a sea of arms.
He also played homage to his hometown of Manchester ahead of 'Station Approach', before telling the crowd that the band had not played former single 'Forget Myself' "for ages" and that it would probably sound "terrible".
Before playing 'New Born', Garvey mocked the concept of an encore, telling the crowd: "This is our last song, it's not, but we all know how this works."
He then made a deal with the audience, explaining that if they wanted them to come back out they would have to hum the 'Star Trek' theme for him, which they did loudly.
Returning to the stage for the promised encore, the band closed the 2009 festival with 'One Day Like This' and a climactic explosion of glitter.

The festival had kicked off on Friday (September 11) with a laid back Massive Attack headline set that was received with quiet appreciation by the crowd except for hit 'Teardrop' that saw loud cheers.
Meanwhile Kraftwerk topped the bill on the Saturday (12), opening with 'Man Machine' and thrilling the crowd with their trademark visuals and costume changes that climaxed with the band playing their 1978 single 'Robots' for an encore, during which the band members were replaced by four 'robots' who were far more animated than their human master who who remained typically static at their keyboards throughout the show.
Playing ahead of Kraftwerk, were Klaxons who played a high-octane set including new songs 'Moonhead', 'In Silver Forest' and 'Valley Of The Calm Trees'.
Frontman Jamie Reynolds announced that the appearence was the last date of their 'Myths Of The Near Future' but they would return next year with a new album.
Elsewhere Lily Allen joking embraced the fancy dress theem, declaring she had come dressed up as "" as she performed on the Main Stage. Although her performance was blighted by sound problems, with the speakers cutting our twice during her set, she managed to keep her audience entertained despite the difficulties.
Also dressing up was Little Boots, whose based her stage set around a 'Thunderbirds' theme, Mr Hudson, playing the Big Top, who along with his band were dressed like characters from 'Star Trek'.
Elsewhere, the festival boasted a set from newly crowned Barclaycard Mercury Prize wiiner, Speech Debelle, who spent her performance translating her south London slang for the crowd, along with appearences from - who played new material as their "label were present" - and The Horrors.
