Think exclusive pre-order bonuses are annoying? How about pack-ins with expensive Blu-ray discs? When season 3 of Star Trek: The Original Series is released this December, for a limited time it will include an exclusive bonus for Atari's Star Trek Online. Inside of each set will be a completely unique admiral's costume for players of the game to run around in, and it supposedly won't be available anywhere else. I can see those that plan to play on Star Trek Online's role-playing servers avoiding this bonus just out of principle, at least until they've earned the bones to wear an admiral's garb. This pack-in is just another addition to all of the Easter eggs and other cool stuff put into Star Trek: The Original Series' blu-ray season compilations, including meta-games that require four digit inputs from a DVD remote, and alternate pilot episodes. The Star Trek: The Original Series season 3 blu-ray collection is available for pre-order right now, and it will be released on December 15, 2009. Oddly enough, being the "nerd" that I am, I have only seen one episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, and it happened to be just a couple of days ago. It was "The Man Trap," where an alien creature sucks the salt out of a bunch of crew members, and was quite enjoyable. Blu-ray seems to be the way to buy these episodes, not only for the clear quality of the dreamy close-ups of Captain Kirk and Spock (which almost made me swoon), but for all the really cool bonuses that the creators have shoved into each box.
